Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: Good. When Wayne McLennan was growing up in a sleepy Australian mining town in the 1950s, the most exciting event of the year was the arrival of Jimmy Sharman's boxing tent. Sharman's boxers would stand on a raised platform, in front of a large painted tent, challenging the local men and boys to box, but also challenging their preconceptions about Aboriginals, who made up the bulk of Sharman's fighters. This all finished in 1969, when the boxing tents were banned. After many years of adventures overseas - goldmining in Costa Rica, fishing in Nicaragua, rowing from Seattle to Alaska - Wayne McLennan returned to Australia to find, to his delight, that a few boxing tents still existed in remote, northern Australia. Using his own experience of boxing professionally, and training boxers himself, McLennan worked at one of these tents and in the process of finding out what makes a man fight for money, he learned a lot about Australia and a lot about himself. The book has been read but remains in clean condition. All pages are intact and the cover is intact. Some minor wear to the spine.

Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: Very Good. 'Ever since I was old enough to think about my life, I'd thought that it would be nice to be rich or to do something important, but I knew that wasn't likely to happen. What I could control however, were two things. How I would live and where. I decided I would never stay doing one job all my life, and that I was going to live away from my home town, far away.' Wayne McLennan tells the story of his utterly extraordinary life through a series of adventures after he leaves his home town in Australia, desperate to avoid following his father and grandfather into the mines. Travelling from the Australian outback to London, to Spain, McLennan has skippered a fishing boat off the coast of Nicaragua, become a professional boxer, mined for gold in Costa Rica and made a gruelling six-month journey - by rowing boat - along the 1,000 miles of coast from Seattle to Alaska. He tells the stories of the compelling characters he encounters along the way: men who refuse to give in to the conformity and comforts of modern life, choosing instead lonely and, often, dangerous occupations. A wonderfully vivid, 'Hemingway-esque' memoir by a talented and honest writer. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.
