Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book offers a behind-the-scenes glimpse into author and photographer A.G. Wallihan's unique method of capturing breathtaking photographs of big game animals in their natural habitats. His account of studying the animals, developing his techniques, and the challenges of wildlife ph…otography in the late 19th Century provide rich insight into hunting as both sport and art. The pursuit of elk, antelope, cougars, blacktail deer, and mountain lions demanded meticulous preparation and hunting instincts, revealing not only a respect for the animals but a love for the wild places he ventured into. These stunning images, recreated here, showcase the author's skill and present a glimpse into a rapidly changing world where the preservation of both wildlife and wild places hung in the balance. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Good. First Edition First Printing. Contains 43 plates representing black-and-white "photographic reproductions of wild game from life,'' with an Introduction by the Hon. Theodore Roosevelt, then governor of New York & later US President. The photographer-authors, Mr. A. G. & Mrs. Wallihan, had moved to Lay…, CO, in 1886, where Mr. Wallihan served as postmaster & Mrs. Wallihan took up hunting (plate No. 43 depicts her "standing by her 30th deer"). In an introductory section titled, "How we made the photographs,''the pair detail both their photographic & shooting techniques & equipment. In his Introduction, Roosevelt (a big game hunter himself) praises the book as a credit to both Colorado & the country as a whole, while a Publisher's Note explains more about the photos & promotes the beauty of the Rocky Mountain region. A FIRST EDITION, First Printing, from 1894, this quarto (10.5" x 12") has light orange cloth over boards, stamped with bright gilt lettering to front, gilt to all exterior page edges. Condition downgraded to Good because the entire text block has become separated from the binding, & the first 3 pages are loosening/completely detached from the text block, which is secured with red stitching. The cloth on the spine is split & missing , revealing underlying webbing from about midway to the bottom. Entire exterior shows light, random soiling & heavy rubbing to extremities. The good news is that the interior is lovely: pages clean & bright & completely unmarked, NO tanning or foxing or writing, images crisp, margins creamy white & clean. Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Same day shipping on all orders received by 2 pm weekdays (Pacific time); later orders, weekends & holidays ship very next business day! Sorry: book is too large for expedited domestic or any international shipping without preapproval of extra postage. Wallihan, A. G.; Wallihan, Mrs. (ilustrador).
