On the verso is a long, easily readable message from missionary H. M. Tuxery, who notes, among other things: "This is a photo of our school at Doornkop. At present I am trying to build a house on our mission property. For the past eight years we have we have been living in an old shack of a building. The roof leaks so badly that we have set vessels . to catch the water which drips through the old iron roof." Doornkop, meaning "thorny hill" is now on the outskirts of Soweto. A nice image.
