Tips, edges and spine rubbed. Light overall wear to cloth. Previous owners inscription inside front cover, otherwise appears unmarked. Gordon L. Hostetter (18921962) was a prominent Chicago business leader and an outspoken crusader against labor racketeering during the early-to-mid 20th century. He served as the president and executive director of the Employers Association of Chicago for nearly two decades. In 1933, he was one of the first to publicly state that Murray "The Camel" Humphreys had succeeded Al Capone as the leader of the Chicago Outfit. This book serves as a report on the "criminal army" of racketeers.

Añadir al carritoHardback. Condición: New. 1st. Chiral Chromatography Thomas E. Beesley Advanced Separation Technologies Inc., Whippany, New Jersey, USA Raymond P. W. Scott Chemistry Department, Georgetown University, Washington DC, USA and Chemistry Department, Birkbeck College, University of London, UK Analytical techniques based on separation processes, such as chromatography and electrophoresis, are finding a growing range of applications in chemical, pharmaceutical and clinical laboratories. The Wiley Separation Science Series provides the analyst in these laboratories with well-focused books covering individual techniques, so that they can be applied more efficiently and effectively to contemporary analytical problems. The different enantiomers of a drug can exhibit widely different physiological activity in degree and nature. As a result, the separation and identification of enantiomers is now a very important analytical problem and chiral chromatography is the natural technique to apply to the resolution of such mixtures. Chiral Chromatography provides the reader with a basic understanding of the nature of chromatographic separations and relates the principles specifically to the separation of enantiomers. The following information is included: * chiral separations involving both gas and liquid chromatography * descriptions of the apparatus used for both techniques * detailed discussion on the retention mechanism that results in chiral selectivity * the structure and synthesis of a wide range of chirally active stationary phases used in both gas and liquid chromatography * preparative applications for large scale purification of enantiomers * applications of capillary electrophoresis and capillary electrochromatography. In addition to the above, a large number of examples of the separation of both commercially and physiologically interesting chiral mixtures are given, as is a detailed discussion on the mechanism of selectivity of each example. Thomas Beesley was founder and is the CEO for a leading manufacturer of chiral stationary phases and has published papers on TLC, HPLC and chiral separations involving cyclodextrins. He has also coauthored papers with Daniel W. Armstrong, an expert on modern cyclodextrin columns. Raymond Scott has worked in the field of separation science for over 40 years and has contributed extensively to the development of both gas and liquid chromatography publishing over 160 papers on the subjects.

Añadir al carritoCondición: Very Good. Third edition, revised and enlarged. Contains 367 hymns. Octavo [21 cm] Brown cloth over flexible thin card boards with gilt stamped titles on the spine and front cover. Extremities are very lightly rubbed. Stitching visible in the inside margins of the terminal leaves. This was the first widely available LDS hymnal that also included the music for the songs (the 1844 Bellows Falls being the first and only other to contain music). Up to this time the Manchester hymnal was the widely used LDS hymnal, all of the hymns in this volume are crossed referenced with the Manchester hymnal (with the Manchester page numbers next to the song titles). Careless & Beesley were both conductors of the Tabernacle Choir (Careless was the first [1869-1880] and Beesley the second [1880-89]). Daynes was the first Tabernacle organist (1867-1900). Stephens was the Director of the Tabernacle Choir (1890-1916). Griggs was a composer. Flake/Draper 1790. From the Publishers' Preface to Third Edition- "Several additions and changes have been made in this issue of the PSALMODY, which it is believed will be appreciated by all who use it. In December, 1905, a revised edition of the Latter-day Saints' Hymn Book was published. In it a number of hymns are improved in diction, and the faulty rhythm of others is corrected, thus rendering them more musical and fitting to the tunes to which they are set. Thirteen popular hymns have also been added to the book. This edition of the PSALMODY is made to conform strictly with the newly revised Hymn Book, including music to all the added hymns, and also to three of the old hymns which were not provided with tunes in former editions of this work. "The pages of the PSALMODY in this edition are reduced in size, making the book more convenient for handling, yet leaving the print large and clear enough to be read easily.".
