Salas Portugal is known for his architectural views, especially of the colorful buildings of Mexican artist Luis Barragán. However, his work is halfway between abstraction and document, scientific inquiry and aesthetic quest. In 1968, he produced a series entitled "Fotografía del pensamiento" showing subjects, listening to classical music, connected on a machine in charge of transcribing the "movements" of their thoughts on photographic paper.
