Perfecto estado. // Selección y prólogo de Jorge Edwards // Antología // Carlos Pezoa Véliz (Santiago de Chile, 1879-1908) es considerado el poeta fundacional de la poesía chilena. Se trasladó a Valparaíso en 1902, donde colaboró con el diario "La Voz del Pueblo" y en 1905, establecido en Viña del Mar, dio clases en el Instituto Inglés y ejerció el periodismo en "La Comedia Humana". Poemas, artículos y relatos suyos aparecieron por entonces en algunas revistas santiaguinas como "La Lira Chilena" y "Pluma y Pincel". En el terremoto de Valparaíso de 1906 Pezoa Véliz quedó afectado por el derrumbe de un muro que le destruyó las piernas. Murió víctima de la tuberculosis. Su amigo, el periodista Ernesto Montenegro, reunió y publicó sus poemas en un libro titulado "Alma chilena" (1912). Federico de Onís lo incluyó en su antología de 1934 //.
