Cummings, Robert Frost, Robert Graves, Archibald MacLeish, Louis MacNeice, Marianne Moore, Muriel Rukeyser, Delmore Schwartz, Karl Shapiro, Edith Sitwell, Stephen Spender, Allen Tate, Mark Van Doren, Yvor Winters, and others." Light gray cloth binding, 302 pages plus 8 pages of photographs and illustrations of each author followed by a page of acknowledgments for photographs, followed by 10 pages of biographical notes on each author and 3 pages of acknowledgments at the end of the book, in the original unclipped dust jacket which has a few edge chips mostly to top and bottom of spine area with no loss of text or illustration, has protected book well over the years and is in wonderful condition, this book is signed by the editor and one of the authors Oscar Williams, on the front end paper, and also signed by author Gene Derwood on page 79 after her poem and again by Oscar Williams on Page 280 above his name and poem "The Shuttle". Accompanying this book is some related ephemera consisting of the following: A typed letter from one of the book's authors "Gene Derwood" to Mrs. Melanie Barber (a friend) who is in the hospital. Gene states her regrets that her friend won't be able to attend the publisher's party for the anthology but that she will still send some invitations so that her husband might attend. She also goes on to state that the party might be held at the Holliday Book shop or perhaps the Gotham since both had made bids for it. She also states that Oscar (Oscar Wiliams) "has sent all your copies of the book." it is signed "Gene". There is also a smal note at the bottom of the page "Books on the way to you love, Oscar." (In the hand of Oscar Williams). Letter is in the original envelope and postmarked 1943.There is another typed letter from Gene Derwood to Melanie postmarked 1945. It is a full-page typed letter signed by "Derwood" It seems apparent that Gene Derwood and Oscar Williams are living together. She talks of "Oscar" and poet/author Robert Pen Warren who had spoken to her about a book she was reading "Gordon's Elegy". Derwood also states hat she missed her friend at the party for "The War Poets". In another envelope are three post card invitations announcing a series of readings by contemporary poets which include Robert Penn Warren (Name handwritten in) and Gene Derwood. The above has "Guest Ticket "handwritten on it. Great combination of book and related signatures and ephemera. NOTE: The New Poems of 1942 is also included. Authors.
