Allison Saltzman (Jacket Design); Andrew Southon (Jacket Photo); Joyce Ravid (Author Photo); Carole Lowenstein (Book Design) Ilustrador. 1st Edition. 241 pp. Solidly bound copy and dj with moderate external wear, crisp pages and clean text. Ink stamp on first front end page and bottom edge. In this superb novel by the beloved author of Talk Before Sleep, The Pull of the Moon, and Until the Real Thing Comes Along, a woman re-creates her life after divorce by opening up her house and her heart.Samantha's husband has left her, and after a spree of overcharging at Tiffany's, she settles down to reconstruct a life for herself and her eleven-year-old son. Her eccentric mother tries to help by fixing her up with dates, but a more pressing problem is money. To meet her mortgage payments, Sam decides to take in boarders. The first is an older woman who offers sage advice and sorely needed comfort; the second, a maladjusted student, is not quite so helpful. A new friend, King, an untraditional man, suggests that Samantha get out, get going, get work. But her real work is this: In order to emerge from grief and the past, she has to learn how to make her own happiness. In order to really see people, she has to look within her heart. And in order to know who she is, she has to remember--and reclaim--the person she used to be, long before she became someone else in an effort to save her marriage. Open House is a love story about what can blossom between a man and a woman, and within a woman herself.

Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: new. Paperback. It's Never Too Late To Graduate! is a collection of eighteen interviews from students who returned to school after the traditional age, most of them in order to pursue their academic dreams. They range in age from 27 to 90! Some had to put college "on the back burner" in order to raise a family. Some had never given up on a particular occupation, and their dream never left them. Others had a degree, but wanted to step up to an advanced degree in order to compete in the job market with younger graduates who were earning better salaries. Their backgrounds and stories are varied, and there were many surprises for them when they went back to school. All of them found studying easier than when they were younger. For those attending college for the first time, The book's chapters also include investigating careers, and what college or program is the right one for them. There are chapters on admission requirements for senior students, financial aid and state supported scholarships for seniors, application preparation, identifying their support system, modern technology and online classes, tips for making the college experience easier, interacting with younger students, and best of all, wonderful inspiring and encouraging stories and advice from the students who were interviewed. The book is also helpful for high school seniors who are applying to college. They are having to navigate the same steps that older students do. An effort has been made to include male and female students and various ethnicities. The author returned to school at the age of 42, to attend a small community college and get an Associate degree Sciences. She fell in love with learning and graduated from Georgia State University with her B.A. in Anthropology at age 53, and her Master's in Heritage Preservation at 55, using this latter degree to put three historic homes on the National Register of History Places in Dunwoody, Georgia, and Co-Founding the Dunwoody Preservation Trust. She is a Native Atlantan and her passion is older adult education. She describes this book on Adults returning to school as "small, but mighty." This item is printed on demand.
