Añadir al carritopaperback. Condición: Near Fine. sewn PAPERBACK, attractive copy, near fine and appears little used if at all. KOCH, GERTRUD / LANG, LUC / ANTOINE, JEAN-PHILIPPE. Gerhard Richter (TEXT IN ENGLISH). Translated from the French. Paris: Editions Dis voir, 1995, 125pp., . The huge Richter retrospective that closed in 1994 in Madrid, after showing in Paris, Bonn, and Stockholm, has only confirmed the key position of the artist among his contemporaries. This book forgoes the accepted avenues through art history, genre theory, and materials, seeking a new approach to the questions that continue to haunt Richter's work. By reconsidering the relations between photography and painting, by analyzing the historical, social, and political elements brought into certain works, as well as the relations between romantic "nature philosophy" and Richter's landscapes, the volume demonstrates how the development of the pictorial material leads to a more open notion of the "image". Richter's oeuvre is clearly linked to certain traditional categories of painting, but the image as he defines it most often eludes those categories. It is this new definition that must be analyzed. - CONTENTS: The open secret : Gerhard Richter and the Surfaces of Modernity / Gertrud Koch -- The photographer's hand : Phenomenology in Politics / Luc Lang -- Photography, painting and the real : The Question of Landscape in the Painting of Gerhard Richter / Jean-Philippe Antoine. 9782906571402 ISBN 2906571407 11.40.

Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: New. Breaking Bad is known for its grim and gritty outbursts of anger and violence. In the chaotic story of a meth-dealing high school chemistry teacher, time seems to collapse, and we feel as though the lives of the characters are moving inevitably closer to their ends. This warped perspective wends its way through virtually every aspect of the story, intensifying the meaning we attach to the characters' precarious lives. Hoping to cultivate a deeper understanding of the series, Breaking Bad, Breaking Out, Breaking Even offers a new way of approaching the program though its complex treatment of time. With its grotesque portrayal of life on the brink of death, argues Gertrud Koch, we can best view Breaking Bad as a black comedy between Chaplin's Monsieur Verdoux and film noir. Koch takes readers through the ways in which this is accomplished through the show's various visual elements and masterful temporal and narrative structuring. Full of fascinating insights, the book will appeal to the show's many fans, as well as anyone interested in film studies, media studies, or popular culture.

Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: New. From moving images on the Internet to giant IMAX displays: The number of screens in the public and private sphere has increased significantly during the last two decades. While this is often taken to indicate the "death of cinema," this volume attempts to reconsider the limits and specifics of film and the traditional movie theater. It analyzes notions of spectatorship, the relationship between cinema and the "uncinematic," the contested place of installation art in the history of experimental cinema, and the characteristics of the high definition image. Further contributions discuss the ways in which cinema interacts with other arts and media such as theater and television. Contributors include Raymond Bellour, Victor Burgin, Vinzenz Hediger, Tom Gunning, Ute Holl, Ekkehard Knörer, Thomas Morsch, Jonathan Rosenbaum and the editors.
