Condición: Good. 1938. First Edition. 320 pages. No dust jacket. Signed by the author. Green cloth boards with gilt lettering. Flat signed by author to front free endpaper. Pages and binding are presentable with no major defects. Minor issues present such as mild cracking, inscriptions, inserts, light foxing, tanning and thumb marking. Boards have mild shelf wear with light rubbing and corner bumping. Some light marking and sunning. Gilt lettering is bright and clear.

No dustwrapper, minor bumping to spine ends of green boards, slight fading to spine but gilt titles thereon are still bright; a small ink stamp on f/ep, binding just starting to split at half-title, some foxing to outer pages and to page edges throughout, but otherwise a good clean copy of this hard-cover book. A story set in Roman Britain in the late second century AD, mostly around Hadrian's Wall. The author was a Sir Philip Howard Pilditch, Conservative MP for Spelthorne, Middlesex between 1918 and 1931. The name Baltropp comes from his house (now long-demolished) in Weybridge, Surrey. A second, abridged, edition was published in 1938. 320pp, 1 map. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
