In Hechingen geboren und aufgewachsen lebte er über 45 Jahre in der Universitätsstadt. Er avancierte zu einem der angesehensten Rechtsanwälte und gestaltete als liberaler Kommunalpolitiker während eines knappen Vierteljahrhunderts das öffentliche Leben in Tübingen. Zugleich war er Repräsentant überregionaler jüdischer Organisationen. 1939 konnte er im der Shoah entkommen und flüchtete zunächst in die Schweiz und dann in die USA, wo er 1948 gestorben ist. Bereits während seiner Flucht begann er mit der Aufzeichnung von Erinnerungen an seine berufliche Karriere, an seine Arbeit als inksliberaler Kommunalpolitiker (Mitglied der Freisinnigen Volkspartei) und sein Engagement in örtlichen und überregionalen jüdischen Vereinigungen.
