The first period of the Minotauro magazine Fantasy and science fiction covered 10 issues and was published between September 1964 and June 1968. On all its covers, of sober design, closer to that of the book tha…n to that of the magazine, it contained the "source" of all its texts: The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction, recognized North American magazine, emerged in 1949, which managed to give prestige to a genre previously associated exclusively with pulp culture. On the back cover, the names of the English, French, German, and Italian versions of the magazine were listed, followed by a quote from the Library Journal: The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction publishes the best science fiction and best fantasy literature ever. currently writes and practically all science fiction stories of true literary value that can be found in the genre. In line with this hierarchy of sci-fi, the director of the Minotauro publishing house, the Spanish immigrant Francisco "Paco" Porrúa, had already been publishing in Argentina few and select titles, such as Ray Bradbury's Martian Chronicles, Star Maker by Olaf Stapledon o More than human by Theodore Sturgeon, translated by renowned professionals and prefaced by firms such as Jorge Luis Borges. The Minotauro magazine was born, then, in light of its North American model, but also as a way of promoting a literature that the Porrúa editorial had been publishing since the 1950s. Unlike most magazines of the genre, it was not sold in kiosks, but in bookstores. With the pseudonym "Ricardo Gosseyn", Porrúa directed the magazine, selected the material and on many occasions, using another pseudonym (Francisco Abelenda), signed his translations. Another famous translator, who participated in no. 4, it was Rodolfo Walsh, who alternated his signature with that of his pseudonym "Daniel Hernández" (name that one of the recurring characters in his police accounts also acquires). Unlike its predecessor, Más Allá (1953-1957), Minotauro was an eminently literary magazine, which included almost no material on science. However, aware of the profile of a certain science fiction reader, in two of his issues, he published the magazine Planeta, published by Sudamericana (where Porrúa also worked), which disclosed scientific topics. COmenzó siendo una publicación bimestral hasta el nº 7 (1964-1965); los nº 8, 9 y 10 fueron anuales (1966, 1967, 1968). Enc. en tapa blanda ilustra…da de la editorial. 19,5x13,5 cm. Tienen 128 pp. cada uno de los ocho primeros números, excepto el 9 y el 10 que tienen 160 pp. Ediciones Minotauro S. R. L. Buenos Aires, 1964-68. La primera época de la revista Minotauro. Fantasía y ciencia ficción abarcó 10 números y se publicó entre septiembre de 1964 y junio de 1968. En todas sus portadas, de diseño sobrio, más cercano al del libro que al de la revista, figuraba la "fuente" de todos sus textos: The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction, reconocida revista norteamericana, surgida en 1949, que logró prestigiar un género antes asociado exclusivamente con la cultura pulp. En línea con esa jerarquización de la sci-fi, el director de la editorial Minotauro, el inmigrante español Francisco "Paco" Porrúa, ya venía editando en Argentina pocos y selectos títulos, como Crónicas marcianas de Ray Bradbury, Hacedor de estrellas de Olaf Stapledon o Más que humano de Theodore Sturgeon, traducidos por reconocidos profesionales y prologados por firmas como la de Jorge Luis Borges. La revista Minotauro nace, entonces, a la luz de su modelo norteamericano, pero también como forma de promocionar una literatura que la editorial de Porrúa venía publicando desde la década de 1950. A diferencia de su antecesora, Más Allá (1953-1957), Minotauro era una revista eminentemente literaria, que casi no incluía material sobre ciencia. Sin embargo, consciente del perfil de cierto lector de ciencia ficción, en dos de sus números, publicitó la revista Planeta, de editorial Sudamericana (donde también trabajó Porrúa), que divulgaba temas científicos.
