Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: new. Paperback. Borders are not just lines in the sand, but increasingly globalised spaces of practice. This is the case in West Africa, where a growing range of local and international officials are brought together by ambitious security projects around common anxieties. These projects include efforts to stop irregular migration by sea through international police cooperation, reinforcing infrastructures at border posts, and the application of new digital identification tools to identify and track increasingly mobile citizens. These interventions are driven by global and local security agendas, by biometric passport rules as much as competition between local security agencies. This book draws on the author's multi-sited ethnography in Mauritania and Senegal, showing how border security practices and technologies operate to build state security capacity, transform how state agencies work, and produce new forms of authority and expertise. The tightening of border security in West Africa has led to the application of new technologies of surveillance and identification. Philippe M. Frowd focuses on the mix of actors involved in these efforts and shows that border security is a statebuilding practice, underpinned by international and local security officials and technologies. Shipping may be from our UK warehouse or from our Australian or US warehouses, depending on stock availability.

Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: new. Paperback. This textbook surveys new and emergent methods for doing research in critical security studies, filling a gap in the literature. The second edition has been revised and updated. This textbook is a practical guide to research design in this increasingly established field. Arguing for serious attention to questions of research design and method, the book develops accessible scholarly overviews of key methods used across critical security studies, such as ethnography, discourse analysis, materiality, and corporeal methods. It draws on prominent examples of each methods objects of analysis, relevant data, and forms of data collection. The books defining feature is the collection of diverse accounts of research design from scholars working within each method, each of which is a clear and honest recounting of a specific projects design and development. This second edition is extensively revised and expanded. Its 33 contributors reflect the sheer diversity of critical security studies today, representing various career stages, scholarly interests, and identities. This book is systematic in its approach to research design but keeps a reflexive and pluralist approach to the question of methods and how they can be used. The second edition has a new forward-looking conclusion examining future research trends and challenges for the field. This book will be essential reading for upper-level students and researchers in the field of critical security studies, and of much interest to students in International Relations and across the social sciences. This textbook surveys new and emergent methods for doing research in critical security studies, filling a gap in the literature. The 2nd edition has been revised and updated. Shipping may be from our UK warehouse or from our Australian or US warehouses, depending on stock availability.
