Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Very Good -. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good -. First As Such. Eagles, Hawks, and Falcons of the World(Volumes I-II, combined in ONE book) by Leslie Brown and Dean Amadon was published by The Wellfleet Press, Secaucus, New Jersey, in 1989. This 8 1/2" X 11", 945-page (glossy pages), 2"-thick offering…is an ex-library copy in VG-/VG- condition. The book, except for the presence of some of the standard library markings and a missing front loose end page, is in very well-preserved shape, physically. (Perhaps because since it's a reference book it spent it's time in the library in the Reference section or Memorial Book Room.) Two of the very last pages preceding back endpapers have smallish creases in their upper right corners. It has the look, generally, of a book much newer than its 23 years. Its dust jacket, too, looks quite nice/well taken care of over its lifetime, but does exhibit a smallish, white label at the bottom of the jacket's spine, sporting its Dewey Decimal number. From front inside jacket flap, "This book, the most authoritative currently available, aims to bring together in one work all the available knowledge on the diurnal birds of prey of the world. Many of the birds of prey have been exhaustively studied in recent years, and a great deal is known about their habits. Others, especially those living in the forests of South America and the Far East, remain virtually unknown. .The information is presented in two parts. First, a series of introductory chapters covering taxonomy, morphology, senses, flight, hunting methods, food and feeding, migration, various aspects of the breeding cycle, economics and relations with man, including falconry. Following, then, are generic and species accounts in systematic order. Throughout, over 125 color paintings by some of the world's most esteemed nature artists illuminate the text and evoke a true picture of the birds in their habitat. Each is accompanied by detailed identification keys." Besides Mr. Peterson, some of the other artists' work on such beautiful display include J.C. Harrison, David Reid-Henry, C.E. Talbot Kelley, Lloyd Sandford, Cornelius J. Ward, and five others. Also included are two each of a Table of Contents and List of Illustrations, a common Bibliography(spanning almost 6 pages), and two Indexes(one for each of the two volumes). By the way, there also some eighty-four maps, drawn in black and white, preceding the just-mentioned Bibliography, illustrating/indicating the ranges, worldwide, of every genus of the birds of prey described/discussed/detailed throughout this two-books-in-one, hefty offering. Roger Peterson, J. C. Harrison, Don Eckelberry, David Reid-Henry, Albert Gilbert, C. E. Kelley, Guy Coheleach, Lloyd Sandford, Malcolm Ellis, Cornelius Ward, J. G. Williams (ilustrador).
