Añadir al carritoSheet Music. Condición: Very Good. ROSE IN THE BUD (Parlour Song) Words by Percy J Barrow Music by Dorothy Forster. Chappell & Co, London 1907 4pp Sheet Music. Sung to rapturous applause by Miss Carmen Hill this popular parlour song was a staple of music halls in the early 1900s. This piece of music came from a substantial library amassed by Maude Beerbohm Tree and later added to by her daughters Viola (1884-1938 and Felicity (1894-1978) Helen Maud Holt (5 October 1863 7 August 1937), professionally known as Mrs Beerbohm Tree and later Lady Tree, was an English actress. She was the wife of the actor Herbert Beerbohm Tree and the mother of Viola Tree, Felicity Tree and Iris Tree. After early stage appearances beginning in 1883, Mrs Tree married and established a theatrical partnership with her husband, in which they appeared in revivals of classic plays and productions of new plays, first at the Theatre Royal, Haymarket and then at Her Majesty's Theatre. Her performances in serious roles were well received, but she was most celebrated for her work in comedy, from Shakespeare to new works by Wilde and others. After her husband's death in 1917, Lady Tree continued to act steadily for almost two decades more until towards the end of her life, in plays and some films, making her last stage appearance in 1935. This is just one of a great many pieces of music and scores that I am selling from this collection on this site. Ref SM1 Size: 4pp.

Añadir al carritoNo Binding. Condición: Good. This Edwardian Era sheet music from 1907 is the song, "Rose in the Bud". The words were written by Percy J. Barrow and the music composed by Dorothy Forster. It is typical of straightforward music publishing in the Edwardian Era. It was published by Chappell - Harms, Inc. of New York and London. The original price on the front informs us that this was the new York issue. *********************************** ROSE IN THE BUD : Rose in the bud, / The June air's warm and tender, / Why do you shrink your petals to display? / Are you afraid to bloom in crimson splendor / Lest someone come and steal your heart away? // Rose in the bud, / The evening sun is sinking, / Wait not too long and trifle not with fate; / Life is so short and love is all, I'm thinking. / Love comes but once, and then, perhaps, too late. *************************************** Ahh . but there wasn't a dry eye in the theatre, as the patrons were each reminded of lost love. **************************************** This vintage sheet music has 4 pages of words and music for "Rose in the Bud", and three other pages with promotional material for other music. Size : approximately 9 1/4" x 12". At the top of the front cover No. 2 in C is indicated by the publisher. It is scored for piano accompaniment. There is, as well, a leaflet insert advertising three other songs (this is much smaller than the pages for "Rose in Bud", measuring 10" x 7" - if it were folded it would be 5" x 7" - see additional picture, above) The songs advertised on the insert are "A Night of Love" by De Sylva & Spier; "For Thee" by Charles Gordon; and "The Scent Still Clings to the Roses" by Dorothy Forster. **************************************** CONDITION - GOOD PLUS - The title sheet and the rear exterior are separate - the music for "Rose in Bud is intact. There is a bit of slight spotting to the front, as well as a bit of nicking and chipping around the edges. The insert is crisp and remains clear of creasing. All in all a nicely preserved bit of Edwardian music. This is the original sheet music.
