Hardcover. Condición: Near Fine. First English and Italian Edition (SD), though most of the documents are in Italian and are not translated (see the end of this listing). 'Documents published for the 125th anniversary of the company (1831-1956).' Between the two volumes there are 639 pages. Both books are very solidly bound from cover to cover with nicely tight pages throughout. There are no binding issues. There are a good many illustrations, both in color and black-and-white. There are a number of fold-outs among them. All of the illustrations that I examined were in excellent condition. I scrolled through the pages in both volumes a number of times and they all appear to be in excellent condition as well. They are exceptionally clean and bright. There are no markings. No attachments. And no one has written their name or anything else anywhere in either volume. I'm pricing these volumes as if there were no slipcase. In fact, I do have the slipcase, but it is in disrepair, specifically it is in four pieces with only the rear attached to the spine. The other pieces are the front, the top, and the bottom. In some instances there is fraying where the separations occurred. So unless you are a master repair person you should think of this as just the two volumes. I think I failed to reference the condition of the covers. I have provided photos. The covers of both volumes are in very good condition. There is no wear at any of the corners or edges. There is slight darkening at the top edges of the spine ends. Each volume also has a small vertical crease off the spine's top edge. The bottom edges have a bit of crinkling. The gilt lettering on the spine is very bright. The gilt design just off the top edge of the spine on one of the volumes is a little bit faded. I'm limited on the number of photographs I can show you. If you want a photo of the slipcase send me a request. Also the color of the covers is beige, not gray. That's the incompetence of my phone camera (or me?). It's a very nice, warm beige, more so than the photo of the rear covers which picked up a little of the beige when I angled the shot. Shipping within the United States will require some added cost, maybe another 3 to 5 dollars. I will charge you what it costs me. Shipping overseas will get rather costly due to the weight of the books, a weight that would the limit for First Class shipping. Priority Shipping would no doubt exceed the cost of the books themselves. The translator states: 'But when, as in our case, the translation involves obsolete century-old documents, such a task becomes almost desperate. The archaic language tinted with Venetian solecisms and often twisted and confused; the technical terminology which in maritime, administrative and legal matters has no easy respondence even in modern Italian and cannot therefore be substantially translated into other languages; the references to institutions and systems peculiar to Venice's history and governmental setup; all these reasons, and others as well, have compelled us to drop the idea of presenting the reader with a translated collection of documents, such collection being the main body of this publication. We have thus been compelled to translate the Historical Introduction, the Glossary and the Bibliography only, whereas for each particular document we have given the English version of the captions briefly indicating the respective contents of same. We should also like to mention that slight changes and additions have been made in the English text so as to amend certain errors and omissions appearing in the Italian edition. We hope, however, that, in spite of the above limitation, the English edition of our work might fulfill our wishes and meet the favour of foreign scholars.'.
