Hardcover. Condición: Very Good Plus. No Jacket. First Edition. London: S.W. Partridge & Company, 1868. (George Robert) Wynne (1838-1912) , eventually the Archdeacon of Aghadoe, was a prolific author of religious literature. Associated with the Religious Tract Society, he authored over 70 works. This is a Very Good Plus to Near Fine copy of the First Edition of this early work. Set in a poor workhouse, it provides insight and flavor to the conditions in Ireland after the Great Famine. While not great literature, Wynne's style is quite competent and does not dismay the modern reader. EXTREMELY SCARCE in any condition (Quercus has been able to identify only two holdings). No publication date, but in deference to Cambridge University, Quercus assigns it to 1868. A small octavo with yellow paper-covered boards; the front is illustrated with a coloured engraving of a sickbed prayer, with a price of one shilling (which Quercus observes, made it a pricey book in its time). The rear board has a list of other titles offered. Clean text; extremely supple, with only a hint of foxing. 127 pages with12 pages of publisher's adverts in the rear. The overall appearance of this book is quite impressive; minor soiling seems only to add to its character, hence the condition rating. No dustwrapper; in an archival plastic protector. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good Plus/No Jacket.
