Libro
Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Poor. This is "Andersen's Fairy Tales" by the great Danish author, Hans Christian Andersen. It was published circa 1935 by A. L. Burt in hardcover format, and has a frontispiece and jacket art by William Heath Robinson. These are reproductions of Robinson's work, and are not identified as by Robinson, and also, lack the clarity of the original illustrations. There are no other pictures in the book. All of the favorite fairy tales by Andersen are included, but also many of them that are included are not so well known, at least to English readers. The translator of the stories from the Danish to English is not credited. This edition is out of print. The book itself is clean and solid, while the dust-jacket is sadly in very poor condition - please scroll down for the complete list of stories and for our full condition report. *********************************** TITLE : Andersen's Fairy Tales / AUTHOR : Hans Christian Andersen (1805 - 1875) / TRANSLATOR ": Uncredited / ILLUSTRATIONS : Frontispiece and jacket art are both by William Heath Robinson, but are not credited by Burt / IMPRINT : A. L. Burt / PLACE : New York / DATE : No Date - [ but circa 1935 ] / STATUS : This edition OP / DETAILS ; Contains a color frontispiece printed on calendered paper (glossy); 459 pages; 5 1/4" x 8"; black, textured paper-covered boards and spine with blue lettering on spine and front board; endpapers are printed in pale aqua, depicting a fairy tale castle and a child sitting within a flying trunk, while foamy bubbles stretch across the two end-papers; color-pictorial dust-jacket . ************************************** CONTENTS : The Mermaid / Hans Clodhopper/ The Flying Trunk / The Rose Elf / The Wild Swans / The Elf-Hill / The Real Princess / The Red Shoes / Thumbelisa / The Goblin and the Huckster / The Bottle Neck / The Steadfast Tin Soldier / The Angel / The Snail and the Rose Bush / The Girl Who Trod on a Loaf / The Nightingale / The Storks / The Little Match Girl / Great Claus and Little Claus / The Garden of Paradise / The Snow Queen / The Emperor's New Clothes / The Naughty Boy / Holgar the Dane / The Tinder Box / The Marsh King's Daughter / The Goloshes of Fortune / The Bell / Old Lukölé, the Dustman / The Swineherd / The Traveling Companions / The Ugly Ducking *************************************** CONDITION -- BOOK : VERY GOOD -- JACKET : POOR -- This is a previously owned book that remains clean and solid, but which has a dust-jacket in poor condition, and with the following particulars noted ::: EXTERIOR -- Spine extremities are compressed and display modest wear; lettering on spine and front board is still bright; there is a touch of wear to the rear cover's top fore-edge corner tip - this may be a small damp stain, but it is too difficult to determine whether this is so; there are a couple of other spots of abrasion, but , mostly, the cover is clean and attractive; text-block edges are toned but clean - on the fore-edge of the text-block appear a few small pinprick like holes - but I have seen too many little kitten claw marks not to recognize them as just such. / BINDING -- Solid / INTERIOR -- The front free end-paper has the stylishly inked signature of a previous owner : " Alfrieda Jacob Pen" - else the interior is clean and unmarked throughout. / DUST-JACKET -- Intact, but extremely rough, with large segments being missing from spine panel and back panel. although the front panel is fairly complete, with only moderate chipping and loss around the edges. A clear mylar cover covers the jacket, ensuring against further wear.
