Cover scuffed with quite a bit of white spotting (paint?). Extremities rubbed with some fraying and short tears at ends of backstrip. Bookplate (Choate 205 Beacon St. Boston). Preface by W. H. Wilkins who completed the work after Lady Burton's death ended her efforts to write her autobiography. Isabel's autobiographical effort ends at page 151 of the first volume of this work. She had only only gotten as far as her ecstatic reunion with Sir Richard after his return from his efforts to discover the source of the Nile and her mother's continuing refusal to agree to the marriage.
