HARD BACK DARK BLUE. Condición: GOOD. FIRST ED. Dark Blue Hard Cover. Pages have minor tanning and foxing. Text is clear. Contains Black and White Illustrations. Book is signed by Mrs. May Lineham. A few marks and rubs to cloth, corners knocked, one page torn, endpapers spotted, solid copy. Overall in good condition. OVER 100 SAMPLES OF IDENTIFIED LETTERING STYLES. The Directly-Useful Technical series requires a few words by way of introduction. Technical books of the past have arranged themselves largely under two sections: The theoretical and the practical. Theoretical books have been written more for the training of college students than for the supply of information to men in practice, and have been greatly filled with problems of an academic character. Practical books have often sought the other extreme, omitting the scientific basis upon which all good practice is built, whether discernible or not. The present series is intended to occupy a midway position. The information, the problems, and the exercises are to be of a directly-useful character, but must at the same time be wedded to that proper amount of scientific explanation which alone will satisfy the enquiring mind. We shall thus appeal to all technical people throughout the land, whether students or thse in actual practice. Hand lettering is of special importance and quite necessary to: Engineering Draughtsmen; Surveying Draughtsmen; Architects; Decorators; Sign Writers; Advertisement Writers; Poster Designers; Kinematograph Film Writers; Sculptors, etc. DATE PUBLISHED: 1915 EDITION: FIRST ED 280.

Libro
Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. A Treatise on HAND LETTERING for Engineers, Architects, Surveyors, and students of Mechanical Drawing; by Wilfrid J. Lineham, Head of the Engineering Department, University of London Goldsmiths College, author of A Text Book of Mechanical Engineering; Chapman and Hall, Lth., London, 1915. In the introduction of the book the list of interested parties is expanded to include Decorators, Sign Writers, Advertisement Writers, Poster Designers, Kinematograph Film Writers, Sculptors, etc. From the Preface Up to the present it has been difficult to obtain good practical knowledge on hand lettering in any country, and nothing, so far as I am aware, has been produced in the British Empire excepting cheap exercise books for students, containing very insufficient instruction for the actual needs of drawing offices. The object of this book is to minister to those needs by means of direct practice in the kinds of lettering most required by engineers, architects, and surveyors. This book consists of a description of the text as outlined in the following descriptive exercise, for students to copy. This goes on for some 200 pages. At the end of the text there are 4 pull-out pages demonstrating the actual use of the prescribed handwritten letters in documents. It is likely that there are examples of text never seen today. This large format book, 282 pages measuring 310mm X 205mm is in very-good condition. The binding has two torn sections between the spine and front cover measuring 30mm and 15mm. Nevertheless, the book is very sound, and the entire text block is free of any discoloration and foxing. A very scarce volume on calligraphy that is in very collectible condition. This large volume may require additional postage.
