Hardcover. Condición: Near Fine. No Jacket. 1st Edition. First edition hardcover, with slipcase box and maps, published by Gregg Press, 1966. Included here is Volume 1 of the multi-volume set. A history, geography, ethnography, of American involvement in the Pacific region. A collection of first=hand reports from sailors, merchants, traders, and others. Edited by R. Gerard Ward, Department of Georgaphy, University College, London. With an Introduction by Ernest Dodge, Director of the Peabody Museum of Salem, Massachusetts. Includes nine fold-out maps bound in the volume. 316 pages, with Index, and Appendices. 6-3/4" X 10-1/4". Illustrated through the text with b&w photos and charts. Sturdy buckram cloth covered boards, with the title on the spine and front cover, as well as a maritime design on the cover boards. Cover boards are flat, the corners are not bumped or worn, no edge wear to the cover. No former ownership marks, no writing on the text pages. Edges of the text block are relatively clean, with just some faint foxing dots to the fore edge. Sewn binding is tight and square. This is not a library discard copy. The slipcase box is intact, all corners are intact, with some rubbing wear to the top right corner - with a spot of exposure of the box beneath the red paper cover. The box has two sections, one for the book, the other for additional maps. A total of eight maps are included. Seven of the eight maps fold out to approx. 38" X 28". One very large map folds out to approx. 48" X 28". This is not a library discard volume. No dust jacket, though I am fairly certain it was not issued with one. Photos attached are of the copy we have in our inventory.
