Dr Taylor was medical officer for Yell and Fetlar Islands in the Shetlands from 1890 to late 1935, and remained there for 10 years after retirement. He died in 1945. His memories are wider than those of a medico, work for which he was much loved. He was active in community life, a part-time journalist, was able to help with repairs to trawler engines and was an accomplished artist. These memoirs were published in mid-1948, were sold out by Christmas with this reprint following in May 1949. It is an engrossing tale of island life. 136 pages, four delightful colour reproductions of his paintings, chapter head or tailpiece sketches, sepia frontis portrait, two etchings and 9 b/w photos, most by the author, map e/papers. Red hard covers with gilt front and spine titles, light fade strip adjacent spine and across top front cover, spine sdunned, corners lightly bumped, Light foxing speckle few early pages, text block otherwise excellent. No inscriptions.
