Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Good. 1st Edition. The book has map endpages and quite a few black and white illustrations. Its binding is secure. "Ex-Libris" and the name of the previous owner handwritten at the top of the first endpage; all other pages are completely clean, unmarked and undamaged. The book's exterior is spotless. Two cover corners are bumped about 1/8" from the tips. Very little wear otherwise. The original blank dust jacket shows slight insect damage (a few tiny chips and holes) along seams and edges, slight silverfish "scraping" in a few spots on the surfaces). It also has a few very faint spots, a little crimping at the top and bottom of the spine, and a few small edge tears, none of which exceeds about 1/4". Book and dust jacket will be bubble-wrapped and carefully packed in a sturdy box to ensure safe transit.

Hardcover w/ Jacket. Condición: Fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good. The book is in fine condition with no real issues or markings. The plain cream wrapper has browned with age, especially around the edges and along the spine., There is very minor chipping along the inside fold of the front dust wrapper along with very modest crinkling and one very slight tear on the upper spine crown. (See additional picture.) The book features the story of Jacob D.B. Stillman, a medical doctor who arrived by sea in San Francisco in August 1849 and who came to spend the coming years in Sacramento where he lived through the period of remarkable change that swept across California. The problem of early flooding of the Sacramento River was a prominent part of the Stillman diaries. The book is illustrated with various etchings and drawings from the gold rush period. 74+ pages.

Hardcover. Condición: Fine. No Jacket. This 7.5 x 10.75, 75-page hardcover book is the 1967 publication by Lewis Osborne of Palo Alto, California. This edition was limited to 2350 copies. This copy is in fine condition with only one rather minor condition issue to mention. There is a curious subtle discolored ring on the upper front panel as shown in our picture. It is not distinct and is not obtrusive. Beyond that the book has no further condition issues to mention. The tan burlap-like cloth covers are in beautiful condition with the decoration and lettering bright and clean. The interior text pages show no signs of reading wear or damage. This title reprints the authors letters that he wrote after arriving in San Francisco in 1849. The letters were originally published in 1877 under a different title. This book is highlighted by numerous illustrations from the period showing scenes up and down California. 75 pages.
