New York 1856 Vol 1 Hardcover very good The leather cover has gilt outlining the front cover, with the title in gilt-stamped on spine with five raised band. There is some wear to corner and top and bottom of spine. The endpapers are marbled and clean; on the page before the title there is the Shakespeare crest. The Title page is aged and foxed and there is some foxing throughout the book. 746pp. Vol 2 Routledge, Warne, Routledge New York 1860 same as above 770pp. Vol 3 Routledge, Warne Routledge New York 1864 Same as above except pg 597-621 has pulled at binding, but not lose. 815 PP including preface index etc. All three volumes have very small gold sign which says ?Froelich Leather Craft 42 W 16 ST, New York? on last page before endpapers These books are very heavy at 12lbs and will require extra postage.

Thick Royal 4to. 675pp. Frontispiece, illustrated title page, wonderful and profuse 511 illustrations by Sir John Gilbert of the Royal Academy. Disbound with binding present. Otherwise text block good clean tight sound square, no bookplate, inscriptions or ownership marks of any kind. Illustrated endpapers lacking front free endpaper, browned to flyleaf and with light sporadic foxing to foreedges of leaves, not intruding or detracting. Light creasing to pages 193209 and lower corner. Bound in bright gilt lettered and illustrated maroon cloth featuring blind embossed Corinthian floral architrave and gilt devices to upper, armorial vignette to spine. Greatly reduced due to disbound, a good illustrated addition for the library of reader and scholar alike.

Very attractive beige full leather covered binding with thin impressed gilt coach-line decoration to outer surfaces of boards, ornate gilt tooling to board edges a bit faded off to top edges. Cross-banded spines have had ornate gilt tooling which has mainly come off, title impressings legible to spine but no gilt - we suspect there have been labels to there segments which are lost. Some rubbing to the spines with a few dark marks & slight vertical lines, some surface rubbing to cross-bands . Light rubs & marks to boards commensurate with age. Ornate attractive maroon & turquoise marbling to page-edges and end-papers to match, end-paper marbling is a little darker, top page-edges marbling is a little dulled. Volume I has narrow cracks to outer hinges causing a light wobble to both & 2mm loss to top spine-end, Volume II has a cracked rear hinge as above with a 3cm crack to tyop top of the front hinge, Volume III has a crack to rear hinge without much wobble & a 6mm chip to top spine-end, Volume IV has no hinge cracks. Slight brown blotching to the rear of flyleaf in each volume. Pages have a slight wave to the touch upon inspection. Text is very clean & binding sound in each case.
