Third Edition. 244p. Ex-library book. Old library markings on spine and inside. A Few stains and scuffing to front cover. Sunfading and wear to cover edges. Spine taped and ends slightly worn. Otherwise text clean and book tight.nPalestrina is perhaps the most famous of these three composers. This does not diminish the musically historical importance of the others though. Orlande de Lassus was a Netherlander who settled first in Sicily and then finally in Munich. He is considered one of the most influential composers of the 16th century and was skilled at many different compositional styles. He is best known for his mature polyphonic style.nMarc Antonio Ingegneri was an Italian composer of the same era. He was known as a string player but wrote a decent amount of masses and madrigals. His music is compared in style to that of Palestrina.nGiovanni Pierluigi Palestrina is most well-known of the three and was considerably famous in his own day and age. Much of his compositions have survived the test of time and he is credited with a massive influence on the development of church music. Not only that but he influenced many other famous composers we know today such as Guillaume Dufay and Josquin des Prez.

Book is tight, square, and unmarked but for former owner name on the FFFP. Book Condition: Very Good; light wear to tips, head, and tail from shelving; small dent on rear board. No DJ. Green cloth boards and spine with bright gilt lettering on the spine and front board. 244 pp 4to. It has become increasingly apparent in the last few years that th study of counterpoint should begin with the technique of the later sixteenth century, as exemplified in the style of Palestrina. Since the secular compositions of this composer involve a great deal of melodic and harmonic freedom, for the sake of greater pedagogic discipline, limited the choice of compositions in the compilation to the liturgical church music of Palestrina but have attempted to make the selection comprehensive enough for serious study. A clean very presentable copy.
