Harlequin book #38; (3/1950; Western);"Lawlessness was rampant in Yavisa when Bob Jackson, a comparative stranger, was sworn in as sheriff to succeed Ben Thurlow who had neen shot down by cattle rustlers in cold blood in his own office. Bob's father had been a sheriff before him and the youngster knew all the ropes, although he made what appeared to be the bad mistake of falling in love with the sister of one of the men he's sworn to bring to the bar of justice. When Jake Atkins, Thurlow's Deputy, turned against him, Bob was in a tough spot, but thanks to his own good sense and the loyalty of the two men he selected to help him - Slug Haney and Hack Simmons - he managed to clear up the mysterious shooting, clean out the rustlers and win the heart of the girl who had made his task a doubly complicated one. Here is a story that will take its place beside 'Border Feud' & 'The Sheriff of Chispa Loma' for action, excitement and romance." *** SCARCE book Number in the Highly Collectible Original Vintage HARLEQUIN Paperback Series; *** >>> Name written at Top of inside front cover; Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" Tall. Blind-Stamped Cloth. Condición: Very Good. From the Twenty-second London edition, carefully revised, with an original preface and notes by the authors. This book was a parody of leading contemporary poets written on the occasion fo the reopening of the Drury Lane Theatre in 1812. The book was extremely popular in England, going through 19 editions. In 1840, Fields, then a clerk at the Old Corner, prompted Ticknor, to publish a second American editon. The first had been published by James Eastburn of New York in 1813. The edition of 1000 sold out in a little over a year, prompting Ticknor to issue another edition of 1,500 copies in 1841. Ten years later they brought out this third Ticknor editon (fourth American) of 2,000 copies. Ref.: Pye, 16. Bookplate of Joseph Chadwick, Cohoes on front pastedown. Signature and embossed logo of Chadwick and embossed booksellers ticket of Wm. H. Young, Troy on FFEP [Loc.19].
