Front endpaper darkened. Rear free endpaper neatly removed. Light scattered foxing in text. A better copy than this sounds. No underlining. No highlighting. No margin notes. Bound in the original brown cloth, with blind-stamped decorations. Gilt lettering on the spine has faded some but is still legible. The following quotation comes from Smith's entry in the DNB: "His drollery produced uproarious merriment. Mackintosk is described as rolling on the floor, and his servants had often to leave the room in fits of laughter.
