Il s'agit, on le comprend bien d'un ouvrage essentiellement publicitaire mais les références abondantes aux lieux où la maison Révillon se procure la fourrure ajoutent à ce texte publicitaire une dimension ethnologique et sociologique très intéressantes. Ainsi un chapitre entier est consacré au Canada du Grand Nord ( baie de Hudson ) où, à l'initiative des Révillon, le film-chef d'oeuvre de FLAHERTY, NANOUK L'ESQUIMAU, fut tourné, un des tout premiers films documentaires de long-métrage. Exemplaire en TRES BON ETAT.

The Revillon Frères, a French luxury goods company, operated a network of fur trading posts in northern Canada alongside those of the HBC. The competition for furs in Canada ended in 1936 when the HBC bought them out. Revillon Frères continued to operate their luxury fur business in France. Chapters include: "Fur Collecting Hazards in Canada"; "The North West Canadian Posts"; "The Edmonton Depot"; "Nanook, An Eskimo Hunter", and more.

Condición: very good. 1st Edition. 121,[1]pp. Tall octavo. Green tinted plates, and black & white illustrations in text from photos and drawings (including maps). Original simulated leather binding; boards very slightly bowed as usual, with some darkening to spine along top 2" of front cover. A fine clean copy. Not in A.B. Account of the French luxury and fur company with stores in Montreal, Paris, and London at the turn of the 19th century. In 1903 they decided to compete with the Hudson's Bay Company in northern Canada setting up fur trading posts. By 1909 they had 48 posts in the eastern Arctic compared to the H.B.Co's 52. The Hudson's Bay Company eventually bought them out in 1936. The publication came out in both and English and French text version, this being the English version. A much better than normal copy.
