ARNOLD F. GATES (1914-93) was a noted Lincoln/Civil War scholar, as well as a Long Island friend and neighbor of Schottland -- and, as owner of Basin Publishing, the publisher of this book. Nice presentation copy. Copyright page bears ISBN number inked in by Gates.
