Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. Small octavo in handsome contemporary binding of black hard-grain morocco richly gilt; yellow surface endpapers; all edges gilt. There is a little rubbing to the leather and the portrait is a little stained - - most attractive.viii, 448pp. Martyn was chaplain to Sir Gore Ouseley on his diplomatic mission to Persia of 1810. The former had translated to Bible into Persian and had a letter of introduction from Sir John Malcolm who commended him as an excellent Oriental scholar. Ouseley's wife gave birth to a daughter in Shiraz on June 17th 1811, , almost certainly the first all-British child to be born in Persia. She was christened by Henry Martyn. Ouseley would subsequently play a role in promoting Martyn's Persian Testament: two of the manuscript copies made at his instruction in Persia were taken by him to St. Petersburg where the work was printed by the Russian Bible Society in 1815, Ouseley helping to supervise it through the press.
