In 1951 Stanley Rubinstein wrote a Letter to the Editor of The Sunday Times asking why people wrote Letters to Editors. This provoked a response of 4 personal letters and 20 other letters to the Editor of the paper. He has taken each of the 24 letters and as peg upon which to hang reflections and recollections of the amusing things which had happened in the previous fifty years. The then editor, H.V. Hodson judiciously sums up.
