The nineteenth president was keenly interested in the future of African Americans in the South, and so became president of the John F. Slater Fund for the Education of Freedmen. The fund was a group of distinguished citizens from both North and South, and while it may have been unrealistic about the obstacles of continuing discrimination against the black man, the fund is credited with helping Booker T. Washington develop Tuskegee, and aided the budget of Fisk University when W.E.B. DuBois was there. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
