Libro
Soft cover. Condición: Very Good. 305 x 215 mm. 56 pages. Cross Section from the Encyclopaedia Judaica. Illustrated with black and white and some color photos. [4], 52 pages. Roth (1899-1970) , editor in chief of the Encyclopaedia Judaica, was born in London and went to Merton College, Oxford, where he showed an interest in Jewish history and liturgy as early as his undergraduate years. He was a reader in Jewish studies at Oxford for two and a half decades, until 1964, when he moved to Jerusalem, as a visiting professor at Bar-Ilan University. After a heart attack and being falsely accused of unorthodoxy, he left Bar-Ilan, and spent the rest of his life editing the Encyclopaedia Judaica and teaching at Queens College and Stern College in New York. Roth wrote and published profusely, with O. K. Rabinowitz's 1966 bibliography listing 572 items, though the actual number is over 600, including translations and editing of Haggadot. (Lipman, EJ).

Libro
Hardcover. Condición: Fine. No Jacket. Third printing (1994) of the complete 16-Volume set of the Encyclopedia Judaica, plus two Decennial Books (1973-82 and 1983-92) and eight Year Books (1973, 1974, 1975-6, 1977-8, 1983-5, 1986-7, 1988-9, and 1980-92). Unless otherwise stated, all books in this collection a) are fine or better, b) are folio-size hardcovers; c) have decorated blue-green cloth boards with stamped gilt spine lettering (and no dust jackets as issued); and d) are clean and securely bound with no more than light age tanning to the contents. This collection is from a private home and is NOT an ex-library copy. Unlike all other books in this collection, Vol. 1 (Index) is slightly cocked, but it does includes the fine folded map in the rear banner ribbon. The height of the Decennial Books and Year Books varies slightly--i.e., from 12-3/8 to 12-1/2 inches--and some are lightly bumped in the spine head and or tail. The covers to Year Book 1986-7 is slightly duller than other volumes, but otherwise the cloth coloring on the volumes is fairly uniform. The gilt lettering on some volumes is brighter than others, but none of the gilt is rubbed or otherwise damaged. **This 26 book collection is quite large and hefty--Volume I alone weights 6 pounds 4 ounces--so SIGNIFICANT EXTRA CHARGES WILL BE REQUESTED to cover postage costs FOR EVEN DOMESTIC SHIPPING (which will probably have to be effected in three separate packages). Sorry, but because of the exorbitant shipping costs, expedited and international orders probably will not be accepted for this collection.
