Condición: new. (Paperback, 2020). (2016) 2022 paperback reprint. 8vo (148 x 209mm). Pp182. Colour and b/w photographs, b/w illustrations by David Blackaller. Fine new copy. "As well as being one of the most talented and influential carp anglers we have ever seen, Rod was also an innovator and true pioneer of the early carp bait scene in the UK, and is widely acknowledged as a supreme baitmaker and bait developer. His creative talents, scientific mind and brilliant ideas for new baits and bait flavours are there for all to see on every page. Thoughts on Bait chronicles the approach Rod took to bait making in the early years and contains a multitude of his earliest articles and thoughts on bait and bait making, including pieces from the early 1980s through to the mid 1990s. Also included are several never before published photograghs of Rod with some spectacular carp that fell to the baits he developed and created. An interesting and informative book which will appeal to all serious carp anglers." Chapters include:- The art of baitmaking; Exclusive flavour blends; Amino acid products; Classic flavour range; The confidence factor; New, oil-based "Specials"; Appetite stimulators; Rod Hutchinson selected ingredients; Behind the flavours; Can you keep a secret?; The value of a base mix; A brief history of carp baits; Why ethyl alcohol; A magic bait; Boilie additives & sweeteners; Cat amongst the pigeons. .

Condición: new. (Paperback, 2016). (1981) 2016 Little Egret Press paperback issue. 8vo paperback (147 x 210mm). Ppxi,181. B/w photographs, b/w vignette illustrations by Tom O'Reilly. Fine new paperback. A new paperback edition of this sought-after and innovative carp-fishing book. "Bearing in mind that this book was written some twenty-five years back, it is far from dated, Rod's ideas and logic apply to fishing whatever the date, just the smallest of adjustments is needed to bring it all up to current trends. In those early days the tackle he used was basic to his needs, as long as it performed as it was meant to, he saw no reaon to change, his concentration being more on his bait which was in its day highly technical, and was also responsible for bringing the particle bait approach into the open. Rod was influenced in the sixties by Fred Wilton's high protein pastes and experimented further with fishmeal baits and explains in layman's terms how he went about using the chemicals now commonplace in modern carp baits. A highly successful angler is naturally a happy man, as was Rod." (Bob Buteux, in the Foreword to the 2005 edition). Without doubt one of the best carp angling writers and this, in it's original edition, is perhaps his hardest book to find. As ever with Rod, the author mixes good solid practical information with well-written carp angling tales. Chapters include: Location of carp; Tackle and tactics; Introduction to baits; Particle baits; Paste baits; When it all comes right; The unexplained; Snag fishing; Carp in winter; Ambition achieved; A never-to-be-forgotten evening; Large carp waters; Postscript; Dear Rod. from Chris Yates; A short interview with the author; When it all goes wrong; Carp fishing in the future; In conclusion. The publisher originally intended to produce this edition in both hardback and paperback formats, however, the hardback edition was never actually issued. .

The eighties for me and many other anglers of the time had been about exploring lakes abroad. Whatever. if you ever caught a fish it was a celebration. Every day and every take was a magical mystery tour. Every lake you looked at on the map had the potential to be your ultimate dream lake. They didn't all prove to have that potential, but each visit to a new, unknown lake was a true adventure .I'm thankful that I was there and I smelt the roses." Rod Hutchinson in his New Foreword. (Hardcover, 2010). 2008 1st edition. 8vo (155 x 217mm). Pp272. Colour and b/w photographs, b/w illustrations. Black boards, spine titled in silver-gilt. Near fine in slightly used dust-wrapper. Signed by the author. "Autobiographical compilation of Rod's published and unpublished material covering his formative years. and his carp-fishing exploits from the early sixties to the late eighties. Some of the material was originally written in the early sixties and has never previously seen the light of day. .Rod has [subsequently] added to these chapters as his memory has been stirred, or [as] he has felt a need to fill some of the gaps. The balance of the book consists of some of Rod's most enduring anecdotal material published in monthly angling magazines through the seventies and eighties. Material covering Rod's carping life beyond the late eighties will appear in the second volume. [This present volume] traces the development of Rod's carp addiction with searing honesty, and much humour, but in the process it also covers the development of carp fishing itself over a period of almost fifty years, from the largely uncharted dark ages of the early sixties onwards. The book is, in turn, touching, irreverent, hilarious, exciting, informative, and eye-opening. Most importantly it is a stunningly entertaining read and an absolute must-have addition to any angler's bookshelf. Simply put there never has been, and never will be, a greater carp-fishing story-teller than Rod, and here is a book packed with the great man's exploits and his greatest anecdotal material." Chapters include: First memories; First trip; Outing; Tenchy Ted; School days; Opportunity taken; Expelled; Aftermath and early jobs; Cinema visit; Hooked for life; Maggie; Courting disaster; Carp session, first mirror; A year's experience; Marriage; Transport traumas; Employment traumas!; The rock 'n' roll years; The cruel sea; Harpo Hitler and Smelly Belly; Pinetrees pool passion; Pinetrees preoccupation; Kent calamities and carp; The way ahead. .

Top edge dusty but very good in dust-wrapper. "The first volume of Rod's Ramblings - aka Carp Along the Way, a sort of autobiography - ended with Rod speeding down to Savay in the early '80's.". Volume two takes up where volume one left off, describing Rod Hutchinson's carp fishing career through the eighties and nineties "although dates don't really matter." The background to volume two is formed by "his two great eighties books The Carp Strikes Back and Carp Now and Then. Rod was at his most prolific fishing-wise and writing-wise during that decade and the material here [fills in the background to it]. What with having a home life, running a business and creating Woldview [his famous syndicate water], it is remarkable that Rod found time for trips down south and abroad." The author explains how he did it all and retells countless anecdotes of his adventures from this period.
