Paper. Condición: Good. Clifford Webb Ilustrador. First Edition. An Original LetterBase/Note Handwritten and Signed by French Biologist Jean Louis Armand de Quatrefages de Bréau. Undated. Note in French. Jean Louis Armand de Quatrefages de Bréau 1810-1892 was a French biologist. Elected professor of natural history at the Lycée Napoléon in 1850, he became a member of the French Academy of Sciences in 1852, and in 1855 was appointed to the chair of anthropology and ethnography at the Museum National d'Histoire Naturelle. Quatrefages was critical of Charles Darwin's theories but was not anti-evolution. From 1859 he corresponded with Darwin regularly and although they disagreed with each other they stayed on friendly terms. Quatrefages authored Charles Darwin et ses précurseurs francais (1870), which contained criticism of Darwinism. On receiving the book, Darwin in a letter to Quatrefages commented that "many of your strictures are severe enough, but all are given with perfect courtesy & fairness. I can truly say I would rather be criticised by you in this manner than praised by many others. Size is 120mm x 80mm. Condition is good. . More images can be taken upon request. Ref17707. 2 vol. in-12° (174 x 106 mm) de: I. XV pp. (faux-titre, titre, introduction); 507 pp. (dont table); II. [2] ff. 2 vol. 12mo (174 x 106 mm) of : I.
