Interior text and illustration pages are bright, tight, and white. The application of biological principles to aquaculture in the disciplines of nutrition, physiology, reproduction and pathology has allowed for rapid expansion and intensification of production from aquacultural systems. A great deal of this research has been done in the temperate zone and has been focused on carnivorous freshwater and marine fish species. Little effort has been devoted to the controlled use of nutrients from decomposing organic matter, particularly in tropical systems. Some extremely successful culture systems are based in large part on microbial-detrital production, notably pond fertilization with livestock manure. The potential for utilizing such detrital systems to reduce or eliminate the need for costly supplementary feed in pond aquaculture is excellent. Full development of this potential is dependent upon more complete knowledge of the systems and assessment of methods for their manipulation. The term 'detritus', as used here, is defined as nonliving organic matter, usually in a particulate form, but also including dissolved organic matter. Inorganic matter and various biota (bacteria, fungi, Protozoa, meiofauna and larger invertebrates) may occur in association with detritus, but they are not detritus per se.

DJ is in mylar sleeve. Handsome pattern cloth cover with gold lion figures, black cloth spine, [126]pp, colour frontis, 3 colour plates , 90 B&W photos and illus. This book records the contemporary re-creation of ancient Greek furniture, virtually ignored for centuries. Robsjohn-Gibbings, a furniture designer, spent more than 20 years studying and collecting design motifs found in vase paintings, terracottas, sculptured reliefs to re-create models that cover the range of Greek furniture from chairs (Klismoi) , stools (Diphroi), tables (Trapezai) , couches (Klini) , and chests (Kibotoi). Three fabrics were re-created to cover pillows and a mattress shown in this book. In 1936 the thirty-one-year-old Robsjohn-Gibbings relocated, from his native London, to New York, where he commissioned a young American cabinetmaker to construct six pieces of "Greek" furniture based on his British Museum drawings. It can be argued whether his re-creation are "authentic" but the designs whether "classical" or not have a elegant beauty in their own right. (2.6 JM LVR 201/b6 Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12".
