Rebound in contemporary blue morocco, blocked ruling near extremities of covers and to dentelles; extremities of covers rubbed in places. Faded gilt lettering to spine, which has five raised bands and is faded and rubbed. All edges gilt. Neat gift inscription dated 1864 to ffep. Internally tight and clean, with occasional faint foxing. With frontispiece and 27 other fine engraved illustrations. Sound clean near VG complete with clean text.

First thus edition in textured red publisher's cloth with faded gilt embossed decoration and lettering to front board and spine. Matching embossed decoration to lower board. All edges gilt. Yellow coated end papers. Very good condition with slight bumping to top and tail of spine, and edges. Fading to upper half of front board. Split to gutter between upper end papers.
