Libro Original o primera edición
Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Tight bright former library hardcover with all pages and card pocket present. Bound in sturdy aqua buckram cloth with a black & white illustration of the piebald horse Pilot leaping over giant Becher's Brook brush fence at England's Grand National steeplechase. There is one very small rub of color loss on the image at the fore-edge of the front board. The 151 pages are very clean and crisp with one, now-unfolded dog ear. Glue remnants on endpapers and dust jacket blurb glued to fep. Ann and Jim Henderson have just married and settled down on a small farm which they hope to make a stud farm. Meanwhile all their attention is concentrated on training the piebald gelding Pilot as a 'chaser'. They suffer a severe setback when Pilot takes an aversion to the horse they have brought as a pace-setter for him. Ann is thrown and badly injured, and the two horses fight savagely. More trouble comes from the filly Easter, full sister to Pilot, whose temperamental behavior seems to threaten their plans. There is a most moving and dramatic description of the birth of a foal; everything to do with horses is expert and enthralling. The races, whether lost or won are full of excitement, and they culminate in a triumphant account of the Grand National - the most important and arduous of all English steeplechases.
