[33] leaves. Quarto. Original typescript, with a few leaves in carbon typescript. A few paperclip rust marks and nicks, generally good to very good. Accompanied by a typed letter, signed, to "Dear Miss Marx" (i.e. Erica Marx, proprietor of the Hand & Flower Press), ca. 300 words. Accompanied by a semi-formal portrait photo of the author. Patten submits the typescript for Marx's consideration: "Here, at last, is my book. I was sorry to hear from your last letter that the position with regard to poetry is becoming difficult, and that you will have to cut your lists to three volumes per year. This, I fear, makes the chances of my collection appear rather remote, although I am able to appreciate that in such a position it is only the outstanding that will deserve publication." He continues noting the indefinite status of some of the poems and their periodical publication. He concludes, noting that his imminent National Service prospects may result in delays in correspondence. Marx did not publish the collection in her POEMS IN PAMPHLET series, but in 1956, Howard Sergeant's series of Outpost Publications included a 12pp. pamphlet sharing the same title. An earlier collection by Parvin, evidently his first, appeared in 1953.
