Cream Cloth Hardback. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good -. Sheila Stuart Robertson Ilustrador. First Editon. 1934. First edition. v, 194pp. and many drawings within the text by Sheila Stuart Robinson. Minnie Pallister (1885-1960) was an English political activist, political writer, self-described "Socialist propagandist", and unsuccessful political candidate for the Independent Labour Party. Due to health problems, she retired from active politics in the 1920s, and wrote a number of books on the topic of socialism. In the 1930s, she wrote books about gardening, after being told by a specialist to renounce all forms of excitement and go to the country to "Be a cabbage for a year". This book tells the story of her year of banishment, and of the silver lining underlying the black clolud. The book is bound in the original cream cloth covered boards with green titling on the spine and front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with light bumping to the spine ends. The contents are tight and clean some foxing on the endpapers. On some pages the foxing has seeped a little way into the fore margin. There is an inscription dated 1938 on the front free endpaper. The unclipped dustwrapper has shelf wear with some soiling and the spine is browned. The corners are rubbed and nicked and the bottom of the spine is bumped with small pieces missing. Larger pieces of up to about 1/2" are missing from the top of the spine and there is a small tear on the spine just below the titling. The tear and a few other small tears on the edges have been repaired on the reverse with tape.
