Work signed by this Columbian man of letters are quite scarce. Born in Cali in 1928, Dr. Oscar Gerardo Ramos had training that led him to be an integral humanism. Bachelor in Classics from Sacred Heart College in 1948, he continued his studies for a degree in Philosophy at the Javeriana University, graduating in 1952. He earned his Ph.D. in Philosophy at the same University in 1955, with the thesis Delina, loving story José Eusebio Caro, described as Summa Cum Laude. Later, accompanied by very illustrious Vallecaucanos, advanced studies at the Universidad del Valle where he earned the title of Master in Industrial Management in 1970. Linked as professor at the Universidad del Valle, this institution was granted the distinction of Professor Emeritus in 1987 and an honorary doctorate in Literature in 1989. He also worked for education from the positions of Director of the School between 1955-1957 Cali Villegas and Secretary of Education 1957-1959 Municipality of Cali. The activities carried out in service to the community, favored joining as lecturer at the University of the Valley since 1957 and was appointed Head of the Department of Cultural Extension from 1959 to 1960, corresponding then design, develop and establish the Faculty of Humanities of the University. Since 1960, committed to the development and humanistic administrative Valley University, he served as Secretary General from 1960 to 1966, during which time he served as Rector in charge several times. He was appointed Director of the Institute of Philosophy, Literature and History and later dean of the Faculty of Philosophy, Literature and History, before the constitution was Humanities Division. He belonged to several academies which have connected a corresponding member or number: Colombian Academy of Language, Academia Historica del Valle, Nariño Academy of History, Franciscan Academy Colombian Academy of History and Education. He also participated in the management of entities related to Education and Culture in Cali as President of the Alliance Française de Cali Colombo, 1964-1966, and President of the Dante Society of Cali Alhigieri, 1962-1965. He was a member of the boards of institutions of culture and education of the highest order: Universidad del Valle, 1960-1971, University of San Buenaventura, Cali, 1971-1984; FES Foundation for Higher Education, 1965-1973; Polytechnic Institute Cali, 1956-1965; Industrial Institute José Antonio Camacho, 1956-1964; Cali Municipal Theatre, 1956-1964; Centro Colombo Americano in Cali, 1963-1964, La Tertulia, 1957-1974, 1968-1978 Popular Cultural Action; Festival National Arts, 1964-1965 and 1969. In addition to his academic career, he served as Secretary General of Asocaña (Sugar Association of Colombia) from 1982 to 2006. One of his greatest actions during these 24 years was achieved agreements between universities in the Valle del Cauca and the sugar, so the sugar industry workers had access to seminars, workshops and specialized studies. His other great achievement was writing the History of the Sugar Cane in Colombia, work that has not yet been posted. Dr. Oscar Gerardo Ramos died in Cali in October 2010. Inscribed by Author(s).
