Bookseller's label of Henry March Gilbert and Sons, Ye Old Boke Shoppe, 24 Above Bar, Southampton and Library label of the late Sir Walter Besant on front pastedown; Southampton Public Libraries labels and stamps. Illustrated by two lithographed plates and folding genealogical table. A collection of material relating to Jack Cade's Rebellion in 1450 during the reign of Henry VI. The rebels, largely from Kent and Sussex advanced on London and after inflicting a defeat on the royal forces in a skirmish at Blackheath, advanced into the city of London from their base at Southwark. The citizens, however, tired of the depredations of the rebels and they were defeated in a night battle on London Bridge. This volume reprints articles from the Transactions of the London and Middlesex Archaeological Society, Archaeologia Cantiana and the Review of Sussex Archaeology. The unrelated Appendix reprints copies of letters in the London Guildhall from Sir Francis Bacon to the Lord Mayor, 1611-26. It is a valuable source for the names and occupations of the rebels from Kent and Sussex. KENT 15th CENTURY KENT - HISTORY MEDIEVAL KENT.
