Pages are moderately tanned with mild foxing to endpapers and text block edges. Pencil inscription to front free endpaper and paste-down, with a few small nicks along text block edge. Occasional thumb-marking present throughout. Plates are moderately tanned and lightly foxed. Boards have moderate shelf-wear with mild bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Moderate tanning to spine and edges, with visible crushing to spine ends. Book has a subtle forward lean. Slight split to joint.

Original Brown Cloth Hardback. Condición: Very Good. First Edition. 1902. First edition. [iii], 149pp. and a frontispiece portrait. John Ogilvie (1797-1867) was a Scottish lexicographer who edited the Imperial Dictionary of the English Language. He also contributed to the "Aberdeen Magazine" under the title 'Iota' and worked for Blackie & Sons where he revised and enlarged Webster's dictionary. He compiled the Imperial Dictionary (published 1847-1850) using Noah Webster's American Dictionary as its basis, expanding it greatly. The result appeared as the Imperial Dictionary, English, Technical, and Scientific, issued in parts from 1847 onwards, and published complete in 1850, and supplement 1855. The volume for sale contains a brief biography together with contributions he maed to the 'Aberdeen Magazine' and a genealogical appendix. The book is in very good condition with some shelf wear and as few faint stains on the boards. The spine ends are bumped and there is a gold stamped royal crest and date (26 June 1902) on the front board. The contents are tight and clean with a small oval stamp from an Aberdeen training college on the front free endpaper. The free endpapers are breowned with some foxing and there is some faint foxing and light soiling on the title page. The tissue guarding the frontispiece is also foxed.
