Hardcover. Condición: Fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Near Fine dj. Illustrated by (dj design) Andrew Newman Ilustrador. First Edition. [nice tight copy with no discernible wear, appears unread; jacket is very nice, with just a touch of surface rubbing and a short (1/2") scrape mark across the front hinge]. INSCRIBED briefly and SIGNED by the author on the title page: "For _____ / Kirk Douglas / '92." The actor-turned-novelist channels his inner Harold Robbins to tell "an enthralling tale of romance, passion and suspense that sweeps the reader across two continents," about an unlikely romance between "an orphaned American heiress, unsure about her future and her enormous fortune" and "a rising star of the Portuguese bullring, whose meteoric ascent to fame is suddenly cut short by tragic injury." They are "brought together by Ultimato, a magnificent gray stallion that unites them in an unexpected link of intimacy while, at the same time, they clash in frequently agonizing conflicts." How did this not become a cable-TV miniseries, back before cable TV was, you know, respectable? Signed by Author.

Estimating Script for the 1970 film, seen here under the working title "The Prison Story." Included is a vintage reference photograph from the film. The leader of a band of outlaws steals $500,000, but not before many in the gang are shot dead. Before he is arrested, he hides the loot in women's underwear and drops it into a pit, using the promised loot to bribe his fellow inmates into helping him escape from prison. Screenwriting duo David Newman and Robert Benton shared many of their first films together as cowriters, including "Bonnie and Clyde" (1967), "What's Up Doc" (1972), and "Superman" (1978). Set in Arizona, shot on location in California and New Mexico. Tan titled wrappers, noted as ESTIMATING SCRIPT on the front wrapper, rubber-stamped copy No. 166, dated July 23, 1968.
