A very nice title, with engraved frontispiece portrait of Charles Earl of Dorset, title frontispiece, portrait frontispiece to Persius, and 22 other engraved plates. 12mo, cxi (dedicatory preface by Dryden), Table, 296 pages. In full contemporary calf, somewhat worn, front joint and hinge neatly repaired. Owners' names to endpapers and title page, otherwise very clean and sound. ESTC ref T123512. Dryden translated a number of Juvenal's satires himself, and selected others, including his sons Charles and John, to translate the rest. The Persius satires are all by Dryden, with an introductory letter by Congreve.

Condición: Good. 5th Edition. cr 8vo, frontis of creech, 352pp, using the what look like the contemporary full calf boards, it has had a new calf spine fitted sometime in the last 50 years or so i would think which has raised ribs and a red leather title label, the old boards are a little edge rubbed , but all is good and sound and a good job done, has an old owners small label to the top corner of the front pastedown, contents good clean and sound. a good little volume. Book.

The original frontis of Lucretius and the flora and fauna is fine and crisp as the text is excellent, contains original prefaces and poems to the author and Translator was Thomas Creech. Dedications to Creech by the great John Evelyn, Life of Lucretius by Creech, this is the 3rd issue of the First English translation of the Nature of things. other dedicators are Thomas Hoy, Josiah Barnes, Norman Tate, Thomas Otway, and others with the notes and index, contains the text of the Nature of Things. Lucretius was an Epicurean of the First century BCE, His work first appeared in Latin in the 16th century. this first English editions are rare. Signed by Binder.
