Hardcover. Condición: Very Good (Plus). No Jacket. First American Edition. Philadelphia: Lea & Blanchard, 1843. The Irish poet/musician Thomas Moore (1779-1852) was one of the most popular figures of his day. A close friend of Byron, his memory has been tarnished by the charge that he burned Byron's memoirs after his death; it is not certain that this is true. He also wrote history. Four volumes were published in England from 1835 to 1846. This is a Very Good (Plus) copy of the First American Edition, which consists of the first three volumes of the English editions issued to date. An uncommon to scarce title. Dark brown original publisher's ribbed cloth binding; ruled and with gilt titling on the spine. Clean text; xxiii, 437 pages. The front free endpapers have been removed, so book begins with the Title Page. Lightly bumped, with just hints of wear to the spine ends. The text is bright and clear, unfoxed, but pages are stiff to turn. (Perhaps spent some time in a damp location over the past century, but there are no flood marks). Really a superior example of this historically important book. It presents very well indeed. First American Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good (Plus)/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. No Jacket. First Thus. Philadelphia: Thomas Wardle, 1840. Here is a very attractive set (2 volumes) of the Irish poet and musician Thomas Moore's biography of his friend Byron. He had published Byron's "Letters and Journals" in 1830; this, however, seems to be a different book - perhaps a condensed version issued under a different title. It is, at any rate, a rather rare edition (no copies listed LOC or WorldCat); Quercus, therefore assigns it to be a First Edition Thus, perhaps the First American Edition issued in this format. Very good copies; bound in ribbed and stamped publisher's cloth with gilt lettering on the spine. Clean text; 699 pages and 702 pages. The pages are bright and clear, with rather minimal spotting throughout. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. First Thus. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket.
