In the original dustwrapper, price-clipped, else bright and crisp, Near Fine. One of the more noteworthy (and tragic) literary hoaxes of the 20th century. "Chief Long Lance," who achieved celebrity through this autobiography recounting his Cherokee boyhood in Oklahoma, was in fact an African-American man named Sylvester Clark Long, born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. In 1932, with his identity in danger of being exposed, Long committed suicide in a Los Angeles mansion. Originally published in both the U.S. and England in 1928; this is a nice copy of the atrractive 1956 Faber reissue.

Hardcover. Condición: VG+. Estado de la sobrecubierta: VG. Norman Mommens Ilustrador. 1st. When the blurb on the front flap advises that this is "a strange book" and that no publisher could be found for 25 years, the prospective reader will expect something different and this book delivers that. Set in the Greek Island it is the story of a sculptor and his companion on the island of Naxos. He sculpts and does other things, she draws, prepares a Mediterranean cook book for seagoing Chinese cooks. Gradually they become absorbed into the island community and this leads them on many twist and turns of life. This is a once-in-a-lifetime book, a really unique effort. 181 pages, two maps, seven monotype illustrations by Normon Mommens based on his Apollonian sculptures, but also representative of experiences there. Black hard covers with silver spine titles VG+, text block NF, no inscriptions. Colour art DJ (also by Mommens) is VG with blemish lower back centre where price sticker removed. (Where the DJ has "Ringdoves" as one word it is given as two words on the title page and elsewhere in the book.).
