Bookseller label of Verity Hewitt Canberra on front pastedown endpaper. Presentation copy: 'Prince William Many happy returns of your birthday. Jennifer. Canberra December 18th 1946.' Written in pencil to Prince William of Gloucester who would have been five years old at the time. Prince William of Gloucester (1941-1972), cousin of Queen Elizabeth II and at his birth, fourth in line to the throne, died in a plane crash. His father, Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester (1900-1974) was the third son of King George V and Queen Mary. He served as Governor-General of Australia from 1945 to 1947. Some wear and fading to dust jacket a small piece neatly cut out on lower edge, otherwise very good. Slight wear, otherwise very good.
