Demi-basane verte, dos à nerfs ornés de filets dorés, pièce de titre rouge. Dos insolé (beige). Reliure de l'époque. Bernay, Abbaye du Bec-Hellouin, Eglise de Menneval, Château de St Martin des Chesnets, Eglise de Neuville sur Authou. "Léon-Phillipe Le Metayer-Masselin, né à Evreux, s'installa à Bernay comme industriel dans la passementerie. Membre de la Société française d'archéologie, inspecteur de l'Association Normande, c'était un archéologue fervent, qui se heurta à la municipalité de Bernay quand la crosse en bronze doré, qu'il avait trouvée en 1858 dans l'abbatiale locale, fut donnée au musée de Cluny. Il proposa alors à la commune de Bernay, en compensation, sa collection de 3000 monnaies antiques découvertes dans l'Eure, qui fut refusée car la mairie ne souhaitait pas constituer un musée." Dos abîmé. Manque le portrait photographique de l'auteur, comme très souvent.Un des premiers travaux archéologiques illustrés par l'insertion de tirages photographiques : les sépultures proviennent de l'Abbaye du Bec-Hellouin, des églises de Bernay, de Boisney, de Brionne, de Menneval, de Neuville-sur-Authou, et du château de St-Martin-des-Chesnets.Léon-Philippe Le Métayer-Masselin, dit Le Métayer de Guichainville (1831-après 1911), fils d'un marchand de Guichainville, épousa en 1852 Léontine Masselin, fille de Jean-Baptiste Masselin fabricant de rubans à Bernay, et rajoute à son nom le nom de son beau-père. Il s'intéressa très vite à l'archéologie et à la numismatique (dès 1856) recherchant des archives anciennes, réalisant des fouilles, notamment suite à la découverte d'un trésor à Berthouville. Mais, en dépit de ses prétentions, il travailla toujours comme un amateur ; son émigration en 1874 vers l'Amérique du Nord (Canada, puis Etats-Unis) explique qu'on perd à peu près sa trace à la fin du XIXe siècle.
