Anveres ( Antwerpen ) , en la Emprenta Plantiniana, 1596, in-8°, 18,5 x 12 cm, 175 pp + (4)nn pp ( censura, previlegio, colophon, printer's mark) + (1)(blank) (complete). Bound in contemporary vellum, with a tear in the lower end of the spine, inner joint a bit weak, a few clear marginal waterstains at the end, small oval library stamp removed from title page. Notwithstanding these defects still a fine/good copy. This is the second edition (first, Madrid 1595) of a treatise written to instruct the future Spanish king Philip III (grandson of Charles Quint, son of Philip II) . The author spent most of his days fighting all over Europe but especially in the Netherlands as lieutenant-general of the Duke of Alva's cavalry. He was, with reservations for the inadmissible paradigm shift, one of those war criminals who scourged the Low Countries during the 16th century. Palau 163696. Cockle 580. Peeters-Fontainas 775.
